Theatre & Film Director | Educator | Curriculum Developer | Founder of The Drama Clinic
Anis Hamdoun is a German-Syrian theatre and film director, writer, educator and curriculum developer working across performance, cinema, language education, intercultural practice and AI-supported creativity.
His path brings together several disciplines, chemistry, languages, directing, playwriting, voice work, education and drama-based methods, which he approaches as parts of one larger artistic and human inquiry.
As a theatre director and writer, Anis has created work that explores migration, memory, identity, political violence and the emotional landscapes of displacement. His autobiographical play The Trip was first developed at Theater Osnabrück and later invited to the FIND Festival for International New Drama at Schaubühne Berlin. The production won the nachtkritik-Theatertreffen audience and jury recognition as one of the most remarkable German-language theatre works of its season.
His theatre work has been presented in both major institutions and independent artistic contexts, including projects with Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where he led Dinnor on se Bood, a work connected to migration stories and everyday experiences of racism in East Germany. His artistic practice combines social storytelling, poetic language, documentary sensitivity and a strong interest in how theatre can create spaces for dialogue, memory and transformation.
In film, Anis works between experimental cinema, documentary practice and social-impact storytelling. His short film Chekhov was officially selected by the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, and received the Gulliver in Viaggio Award for Best Film on Social Issues at the Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival. His film and media work also includes collaborations with cultural and museum contexts in Berlin, as well as projects exploring migration, memory, objects, identity and the inner life of exile.
Alongside his artistic work, Anis is an experienced educator and mentor. He has taught and lectured in theatre, performance, writing, acting and language-based artistic methods, including work connected to the University of the Arts Berlin, Die Etage Berlin, and University of Naples L’Orientale.
His teaching practice connects drama, voice, body, language and storytelling, with a particular focus on how artistic methods can support learning, self-expression and intercultural communication.
Anis is the founder of The Drama Clinic, an applied creative lab that brings together theatre, film, language, voice and AI. Through this platform, he transforms professional theatre and film methods into workshops, consulting formats and educational programs for schools, universities, cultural institutions, companies and social organizations.
His work is driven by a central belief: art is not only a form of expression, but a method of knowledge. Theatre, film, language and technology can help people think more deeply, communicate more clearly, understand their own stories and build more creative, human-centered ways of learning and working.
